The Mental Shift That Saved Her Career

One evening, Emily, an ER colleague, was feeling lost and overwhelmed.

She had just been passed over for a leadership role she wanted.

Her confidence was shattered, and she questioned her capabilities.

After rounds, she shared her severe fear of making mistakes.

She was stuck in a problematic mindset.

She believed that her abilities were set in stone.

I knew this fixed mindset held her back from reaching her goals.

I shared my own experiences to encourage a growth mindset.

Early in my career, I treated a challenging stroke patient with complications.

I had to report to a committee and explain what went wrong.

Instead of giving in to thoughts of not being good enough.

I leaned into the situation and learned from it (the way a beginner would.)

This reshaped my mindset and helped me ‘grow out of’ the doubts.

Emily took this idea and ran with it.

Within months, She took every challenge as a learning opportunity.

Her confidence returned, and she dominated.

Eventually, a leadership role opened up at a sister hospital.

They offered her the role before she left the interview!

Her transformation was incredible, starting with a simple mindset shift.

Chances like this exist everywhere…

if you’re looking for them.
